Notes:

Centaurus A is a member of the M83 group of galaxies. It is a strong source of radio radiation. It is the nearest radio galaxy to our Milky Way. It is a strange blend of eliptical and spiral galaxy, having the strong central dust lane common to spirals.
Infrared images have revealed a disk of matter in the central region spiraling into a black hole, which is estimated to have a mass one billion times our sun's.

The odd shape of this galaxy is appearantly attributable to interaction (collision) with another galaxy about 10 billion years ago.
